2 DAYS TREK
Hiking in the middle of winter in Finland is possible! "Rendez vous" to the Oulanka National Park for a 12 km walk through the white fir trees.
It is better to arrive the day before in Kuusamo or Juuma where the trek begins to be able to start in the morning, the light of the morning is very nice. In Juuma you can stay with Marja and Kyösti in a chalet by a lake with sauna! It is a family village, Marja and Kyösti own the lake, only them live by it. You can go ice fishing with Marja on the frozen lake, go snowshoeing, you'll meet the reindeer in the village and you can simply enjoy the sauna. Open your eyes, breathe the fresh air, watch the stars, there are plenty things to do. You can also ask Marja to bring you to the Oulanka National Park and start your trek there down or start it directly from the cottage. The path is well indicated you can't be lost and the landscapes are incredible.
You will pass by very secure frozen suspension bridges. If you have sticks it will be easier to climb, with the snow in winter it slips. From Helsinki or Tampere it is possible to take a train to Oulu and then once arrived in Oulu take the bus to Kuusamo. In Kuusamo the hosts of the chalet will pick you up by car.
Ask me to contact Marja and Kyösti, They are wonderful hosts you need to see them, I like them a lot!
