Welcome in Oppède-Le-Vieux, a beautiful medieval village! This is where you will start the hike.
You can park at the parking lot at the entrance to the village and continue on foot until you reach the road of the truck on your right. Do not go straight into the heart of the village towards the square, you will come back there on the way back. Don’t miss the path on the right, you can miss it, it is not very well indicated. I’m telling you this because when I did that hike, I looked for that fork on the right for about 15 minutes. At the beginning, follow the white and red markings of the GR followed by the yellow markings.
I advise you to take a break once you reach the top of the ridge to picnic and admire the view of these beautiful cliffs. Breathe in the fresh air of Provence!
You will pass through incredible gorges, you will see that you feel very small once you are at the bottom of the gorges. You will pass by a bastidon, a small house where you can rest and eat if the weather does not allow it outside. Of course it is much better outside to take a sun bath. To get there you have to take a small path following the white and red traces of the GR. Afterwards, come back where you were and continue your walk on the road through "la forêt des cédres", a very surprising protected nature reserve. If you have an eye and not too loud, you will be able to see small animals. I was lucky to see one doing it!
Arriving in the village at the end of the walk, you will pass a charming little café along a road with coloured ochre houses. And yes Ochre is a pigment widely used in the Luberon in building paints!
