TARABUCO AND THE EATEARS OF HEARTS

1814 was the key date of the Spanish invasion of Tarabuco. On their way to Santa Cruz, the Spaniards stopped here to conquer Tarabuco. The inhabitants did not defend themselves and waited until the enemies had used all their weapons against them.

The tarabuceños had only bull’s horns and when the Spaniards ran out of arms, the inhabitants rebelled and murdered all the Spaniards. They would have eaten their hearts, hence the name Sonq’o Mikuy the heart eaters.

It is on the square of Tarabuco that you will find the famous statue of a heart eater. Not far away you can visit the very large Tarabuco market.

Tarabuco is very interesting for its history. Go through this village, it’s worth it! If you decide to go to Pisili, it is on the same road, stop at the Tarabuco market and soak you of its history and discover its market which is well known!

I'll share an article later for a two days trek from Tarabuco to Pisili, another traditional village.
